We needed to focus on milk test and LA this year to get the data to prove how amazing these girls are! This is our first test in 2024 with all 7 does on it (some later than we would've liked) but they are proving how productive they are.
Better Wayz Mercy Me is just ah-mazing!! We knew last year as a 2F that she was productive so we couldn't wait to test her this year as a 3F. And she didn't disappoint! The jar just kept filling and filling! She filled a half gallon jar on the first milk out and just shy of the second half gallon on the next milk out. Almost a gallon of milk in 24 hrs! Mercy is bigger doe and weighed in last month at 88 lbs. Her mammary is wide, extends behind her legs and her foreudder and teats are long. She's got so much capacity and carries it so well.
Better Wayz Pipsqueak, half sister to Mercy Me (both sired by SG Old Mountain Farm Elton Jay ++*B ELITE), didn't disappoint coming in 6.0 lbs! Pipsqueak scored a 33 in rump width as a yearling FF! She's so wide! It's deceiving to see their mammaries in pictures because you can't really tell how big they are. We can't wait to get them LA'd in July!
And let's not forget about our older girls... Swiss Mocha and Pumpkin Spice! Holding their own with production, a little farther in lactation and the very first time EVER that they raised their kids! Although we saw a drop in production when we pulled their bucklings, we are still excited that they are so productive!!
Our herd has blossomed with the genetics bred by Kathy Beck- Mullins at Better Wayz and shared with us by a special friend Emily Carpenter at A Little Funny Farm. We are so blessed to been given the opportunity to not only own 4 of these Better Wayz does but also to have bred 3 of these does that are looking quite amazing! It takes years to let them mature and prove your breeding program. It's definitely a game of patience.

Leslie Duckwitz All kids have had a bottle here before 6 weeks (milk test day, quads/quints). If we have one or two that refuse it, usually they come around when they see the other bucklings drinking. Sometimes they just need a little one on one until they get the hang of it. At 6 weeks, the bucklings leave the doe pen but still get bottles through 8 weeks. By then, we transition them fully to grain. Kids are fed grain 2x’s a day from 3 weeks old while still nursing so growth rates are good.

Pipsqueak delivered 2 bucklings on Saturday afternoon.
We're pretty sure that both are sired by Versace but time will tell... either by being polled like Versace (which we think they are) or that we'll do DNA if anyone is looking to add a buckling to their herd.
